Sheffield Wednesday scouts spotted watching Portuguese giants as striker bags hat-trick

According to a report from Portuguese news outlet A Bola (as cited by Sports Witness), scouts from Championship side Sheffield Wednesday were in attendance of a Liga NOS tie between Benfica and Maritimo, with the score finishing 4-0 to the hosts.

Preparations for the January transfer window are well underway with the window reopening in just under a month. Some clubs will already be making initial approaches to try and put deals in place for when the window opens and others will be heading out on scouting missions to try and find the right players. And, Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday are one of the clubs that are watching over games to try and find new players.

It has been reported by Portuguese news outlet A Bola that Sheffield Wednesday scouts were in attendance of Benfica’s 4-0 win over Maritimo at the weekend. Alongside the Wednesday representatives were scouts from four Premier League sides as well. Manchester United, Everton, Wolves and Brighton and Hove Albion are all said to have watched over the game.

The game finished 4-0 in a dominant display from Benfica, who currently sit top of Liga NOS. Carlos Vinicius netted a hat-trick for Benfica while midfielder Pizzi provided an assist and a goal. Vinicius will have been one to catch the eye thanks to his goalscoring exploits, continuing his strong run of form since joining from Napoli in the summer (eight goals and one assist in 10 appearances).

It will be interesting to see if Sheffield Wednesday or any of the other clubs in attendance look to build on what they have seen and make a move for any of the Benfica or Maritimo players in January.
