Lopetegui, who has also managed Spain, has been out of work since leaving Wolves last summer.

Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim flew to the UK on Monday for face-to-face talks with the Hammers.

The Portuguese was linked with the Liverpool job but is no longer considered in the frame to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Lille head coach Paulo Fonseca is another candidate to take over at the London Stadium after previously holding talks with Sullivan back in 2018.

The club are yet to make a final decision on their next manager as has Lopetegui who has also held discussions with AC Milan about replacing Stefano Pioli.

The Spaniard oversaw 23 games as Wolves boss, winning nine, with four draws and ten defeats as he led the Midlands side to a comfortable 13th-placed finish last season.

However, tensions grew between Lopetegui and the club who informed him that they did not have the financial resources to meet his high ambitions.

A mutual parting of the ways followed three days before the start of the Premier League season and just nine months into his three-year contract.
